PURPOSE:To produce a sintered metallic fiber sheet compounded with metallic fibers at a high compounding ratio by making sheet from a slurry contg. metallic fibers by a wet type sheet manufacturing method then sintering the sheet in and at a specific atmosphere and temp. CONSTITUTION:The slurry compounded with the PVA fibers which are easily soluble in water as fibers for binding in such a manner that the metallic fibers consisting of a stainless steel, brass, copper, aluminum, etc. and having 2-12mm fiber length are incorporated at >=70wt% therein is subjected to dehydration pressing, heating and drying by the wet type sheet manufacturing method, by which the sheet compounded highly with the metallic fibers is produced. Such sheet is sintered at the temp. near the m.p. of the metallic fibers in a vacuum or inert gaseous atmosphere of Ar, etc. The sheet is otherwise sintered at the temp. at which the oxidation of the metallic fibers starts in the atmospheric atmosphere. The metallic fibers are bounded to each other by surface sintering and the sintered metallic fiber sheet having the excellent strength of 20-300g/m<2> metric basis weight is produced.
