The invention relates to a method for preparing superoxide dismutase SOD from an erythrocyte lysate by precipitation of the lysate with an ethanol/chloroform mixture in a ratio of about 5/3, the SOD-containing supernatant being collected and the SOD purified from this supernatant, characterised in that the ratio by volume of the erythrocyte lysate/volume of the ethanol/chloroform mixture is of the order of 1.5 to 1.6.
