<p>A poly(amide-acid) for use in prodn. of a soluble thermo-plastic polyimide with high Tg and high chemical resistance, is made by reacting 20 mol.% aromatic diether-dianhydride of formula (I), in which A is a tetravalent gp. of formula (II), K is a gp. of formula (IV), W is O, S or other and m' is 0 or 1, with 50 mol.% aromatic diether-diamine of formula H2N-Y-NH2, in which Y is a divalent gp. of formula (III), and m is 0 or 1, at 100 deg.
