2,6-Piperidine-dione derivs. of formula (I), in which R1 and R2 are 1-4C alkyl, n is 2 or 3 and Het is 2-pyridyl or 2-pyrimidyl are made by (a) reacting 4,4-dialkyl 2,6-piperidine dione with a 1,4-dihalo-butane to give a halo-butyl piperidine dione; (b) condensing this with ethylene diamine to give the amine; (c) reacting with 2-pyridyl or 2-pyrimidyl chloride or bromide; and (d) treating the prod. with an alkyl dihalide of formula Hal-(CH2)n-Hal to obtain (I) and its addn. salts with mineral acids.
