<p>Androst-4-ene 3,17-dione, for use as an intermediate in prepn. of steroid hormones, is made by incubation under aerobic conditions of a steroid with at least 8C atoms, in a side-chain in 17-position, of cholestane or stigmastane series, with mycobacterium NRRL B-3805, or enzymes derived from this. Incubation is in aq. medium contg. nitrogen and carbon sources and inorganic salts, at 24-35 deg.C for 2 hours to 15 days.</p> |
