PURPOSE:To obtain a novel heat resistant 12Cr steel having superior creep rupture strength by specifying the amounts of Ni, Nb, Ta and B in a heat resistant 12Cr steel having a specified composition. CONSTITUTION:This heat resistant 12Cr steel consists of, by weight, 0.05-0.25% C, >0.2-1.0% Si, <=1.0% Mn, >1.0-2.0% Ni, 8.0-13.0% Cr, 0.5-2.0% Mo, 0.1-0.3% V, 0.03-0.3% Nb and/or Ta, 0.01-0.2% N, >0.5-2.0% W, 0.005-0.01% B and the balance Fe and has a tempered martensite structure. The steel has improved creep characteristics without deteriorating the ductility or toughness and it is suitable for use as a material for parts of a steam turbine, especially the blades and bolts.
