The wire-tensioning device is intended for retensioning binding and anchoring wires for plants, in particular vines. The device consists of two pivotably interconnected two-armed levers (2, 4) which in each case have a handle (23, 43) for folding the two levers (2, 4) apart or together. On the work arm (24) of the lever (2) is situated a stop plate (25) which is designed as an angle profile, is open towards the front side and which can be applied against the wire (6) to be tensioned. Furthermore, arranged on the work arm (44) of the other lever is a hook which is mounted rotatably with the aid of a crank (49) in a bearing sleeve (45) and which, in the spread-open state of the power arms (22, 42), extends through a central opening (26) in the contact plate (25) and can be suspended with its hook part (46) in the wire (6) to be tensioned. When the power arms (22, 42) are folded together, the hook (46) is drawn backwards through the passage opening (26) together with the suspended wire piece (61). By turning the crank (49), a twist loop (62) can then, without great force expenditure, be turned into the wire piece (61). Subsequently, the levers (2, 4) are spread apart again so that the hook (46) passes forwards through a passage opening (26) and can there be removed from the twist loop (62). <IMAGE>
