RADAR PPI DISPLAY

A universal display generator for superimposing computer-generated graphic information on conventional radar PPI displays (18). Target motion histories and predictions, together with coded symbology and navigation lines are presented on the unmodified radar display system at full brightness in the form of dots or continuous straight line segments. The invention receives from the existing display system signals representing the successive angular positions of the sweep and the starting time of each sweep, and computes and returns only a single Z-axis unblanking command. The invention is compatible with any existing radar display system employing a Rho-theta sweep in which the electron beam is deflected from an origin towards the periphery, the direction of the sweep moving uniformly in synchronization with the radar antenna pointing angle.
