PURPOSE:To obtain a piroxicam ointment having improved impregnation property of piroxicam useful as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent, and giving high remedying effect, by adding piroxicam and a glycol to a U.C.H ointment, and adjusting the pH of the mixture to a specific level. CONSTITUTION:A U.C.H ointment is compounded with piroxicam (chemical name: 4-hydroxy-2-methyl-N-2-pyridyl-2H-1,2-benzothiazine-3-carbo-xamido-1,1- dioxide) and a glycol, and the pH of the mixture is adjusted to about 7.5-9.5, preferably 7.6-9.2. The amount of the glycol (e.g. PEG, propylene glycol, etc.) to be added is preferably 10-15wt%. The ointment may be further added with a transcutaneous absorbefacient such as N-methylpyrrolidone, urea, etc. to improve the transcutaneous transmission and the absorption of piroxicam. It has high accumulation property in the skin, acts as a deposit and gives excellent remedying effect.
