PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration in characteristic due to partial wear of soft magnetic thin film by making the thickness of the nonmagnetic base thin only in the vicinity of a magnetic gap of the thin film magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:The thickness of the nonmagnetic base 1 near the magnetic gap 3a is made thinner than other parts in a form of slot. That is, a groove-like hole 1a is formed from the rear face to a part of the nonmagnetic base 1 formed with a winding hole 7 corresponding to the magnetic gap. Then the soft magnetic thin film 2 is formed by a thickness to obtain a prescribed head track width at a face opposite to the slot hole 1a of the base 1, the soft magnetic thin film 2 is cut and processed to form a V-shape groove 3. One side of the V-shaped groove 3 is used as a magnetic gap face 3a and the nonmagnetic film 4 is formed on the V-shaped slot 3. After the soft magnetic thin film 5 similar to the soft magnetic thin film 2 is formed to fill the V-shaped groove 3, the soft magnetic thin films 4, 5 are removed so that the nonmagnetic film 4 and the soft magnetic thin film 5 are removed while leaving the V-shaped groove 3. The nonmagnetic protection film 6 is formed to apply chip cut or chip forming. |
