PURPOSE:To improve the suction efficiency of an engine and its output by providing a movable diaphragm as actuated on exhaust pulses, and an opening and closing valve as closed at a predetermined operation range respectively in a pressure transfer passage between suction and exhaust passages. CONSTITUTION:In a four-cylindered engine, each exhaust port 3 is connected to the branches 4-1-4-4 of an exhaust manifold 4, and each suction port 2 connected to the branches 7-1-7-4 of a suction manifold 7, respectively. The said branches 7-1-7-4 are connected to a common suction pipe 9 via a surge tank 8. In this case, the surge tank 8 is connected with one end of a pressure conduit 11 forming a pressure transfer passage 12, and the other end is branched into four lines 11-1-11-4 for connection to the said branches 4-1-4-4, respectively. In the pressure transfer passage 12, there are provided a pressure transfer device 13 including a movable diaphragm 16 actuated toward the surge tank 8 by a spring 17, and an opening and closing valve 14 as closed at a predetermined engine speed range.
