The invention relates to an apparatus for transferring capsules (1), which are being conveyed in a pipe (2) through which liquid flows, from a region which is under a superatmospheric operating pressure into a region of lower pressure or of atmospheric pressure. This is achieved by a number of up-pipes (4) and downpipes (7), arranged in series, the flow of liquid (5) being more or less interrupted by a compressed air cushion (6) which is located in the upper region of the downpipe (7).
