PURPOSE:To obtain milky glass having high weather resistance, feasibility for bending and tempering capable of providing translucent glass by using materials consisting of SiO2, alkali metal oxides, alkaline earth metal oxides, B2O3 and Al2O3 as main components and specihying the proportion of the compsns. CONSTITUTION:Milky glass consists of 60-75wt% SiO2 0-4wt% Al2O3, 0.5-15wt% CaO, 0-8wt% MgO, 0-10wt% BaO, 6-20wt% CaO+MgO+BaO, 3-14wt% B2O3, 2-13wt% Na2O, 0-5wt% K2O and 2-13wt% Na2O+K2O+Al2 O3, wherein the weight ratio of oxides, i.e. (B2O3+CaO)/(Na2O+K2O+Al2 O3)>=1.5, (CaO+BaO)/(Na2O+K2O)>=1.0. The glass is obtd. by mixing generally available materials to a target compsn, melting the mixture at 1,450-1,500 deg.C, cooling thereafter, forming to plate glass by the roll out process after holding at 1,200-900 deg.C and polishing the surface of the formed plated glass.
