A separator cell 2 for the head 1 of an ultrasonic exploration device has a groove 3 in which a needle 4 may be guided for carrying out biopsies. Consequently, its full insertion will take place in the zone 8, 8' of supervision of the head of the exploration apparatus 1 in such a manner that the needle may be guided securely during the carrying-out of a biopsy. The separator cell 2 may be made from a plastic material which has the same acoustic impedance as the tissue and, therefore, may be manufactured very economically. After the needle 4 has been inserted, the separator cell 2 may be removed while the needle 4 is slid through the groove 3. This facilitates the carrying-out of the biopsy and makes it possible to use the head of the exploration apparatus more accurately (perfectly).
