PURPOSE:To obtain simply and economically the titled compound useful as a raw material or intermediate for carbide or phosphoric acid agricultural chemicals, by using polythiobisphenol capable of being synthesized from phenol and sulfur monochloride at one stage as a raw material, mesylating it, and reducing the reaction product. CONSTITUTION:Polythiobisphenol is used as a raw material, and subjected to mesylation reaction by the use of a tertiary amine, preferably triethylamine, nitrogen-containing aromatic compound such as pyridine, etc., inorganic base such as NaOH, K2CO3, etc., in a solvent such as ethyl acetate, acetonitrile, etc., at 0-10 deg.C, preferably normal pressure. Then, the reaction product is reduced to give a compound shown by the formula. Dithiobisphenol, trithiobisphenol, or their mixture is used as the raw material, and easily obtained by synthesis from phenol and sulfur monochloride. |
