PURPOSE:To prevent the splashing of molten metal and to control well the amount of molten metal stuck by hot dipping when molten metal is thinly stuck at high speed, by placing a box having an opening between wiping nozzles and the surface of a hot dipping bath and by keeping the internal pressure of the box positive. CONSTITUTION:A bottomless box 23 is placed under wiping nozzles 22 so that the lower edge is put in a hot dipping bath 20. A metallic strip 21 is pulled up through a top slit 24 in the box 23. The internal pressure of the box 23 is kept sufficiently positive. Most of gas spouted from the nozzles 22 is turned on the slit 24, and only part of the gas flows toward the surface of the bath 20 in the box 23 under reduced pressure. Accordingly, the splashing of molten metal can be prevented, the wiping effect is enhanced, and the amount of molten metal stuck by hot dipping can be stably controlled.
