NEW MATERIAL:The antibiotic substance of PA-42702-A and PA-42702-B of formula and having the following characteristics. PA-42702-A (Na salt): elemental analysis (%), C 50.32, H 5.08, N 9.57; melting point, 221-224 deg.C (decomposition); solubility, hardly soluble in organic solvent, the free acid is soluble in dimethylsulfoxide and hardly soluble in water and organic solvent; positive to ninhydrin reaction. PA-42702-B: elemental analysis (%), C 44.91, H 4.87, N 7.19, Na 6.37; solubility, soluble in water and hardly soluble in organic solvent, the free acid is soluble in water and methanol; etc. USE:An antibacterial agent effective against Gram-negative bacteria. PREPARATION:A bacterial strain belonging to Streptomyces genus, e.g. Streptomyces sp. PA-42702 (FERM P-7542) is cultured at 5.5-8.5pH and 25-32 deg.C for 20-80hr, preferably in an aerated deep tank. |
