The invention relates to a freshness-maintaining device for foodstuffs. To extend the freshness of easily perishable goods in the household, the goods are placed in a freshness-maintaining device which consists of a base plate with a bell-shaped covering which surrounds a storage space on all sides. Arranged at the contact surface between the covering and the base plate is a sealing element and, furthermore, a pressure compensating device is coupled to the storage space. A vacuum pump which is in flow connection with the storage space can be actuated with the aid of control means as a function of the closed state and can be switched off, in particular with the aid of a pressure sensor, when a particular negative pressure has been reached in the storage space. <IMAGE>
