PURPOSE:Optical isomers of a compound having axial chirality, an organic compound containing a hetero atom as an asymmetric center and/or an optically active diphenylethane by using an optically active adduct of a metallic complex with clay as an adsorbent. CONSTITUTION:In resolving optical isomers of a compound (e.g., 1, 1'-bi-2- naphthol) having axial chirality, an organic compound (e.g., phenylmethyl sulfoxide) having a hetero atom as an asymmetric center and/or an optical active diphenylethane shown by the formula (X is H, OH, or alkyl; Y is OH, or alkyl), an optically active adduct of a metallic complex with clay is used as an adsorbent. The adduct is synthesized by dispersing clay minerals (preferably montmorilonite) into water in a ratio of 1g/100ml, and adding an optically active metallic complex (e.g., having Ni as metallic ion and 1, 10-phenanthrone as ligand) to the dispersion so that the adduct is precipitated.
