PURPOSE:To improve sealing between the battery and the manifolds of a fuel cell by using gaskets each prepared by forming a groove on the battery-side surface of an L-shaped part having the same thermal expansion coefficient as the battery and then packing a sealing material into the groove. CONSTITUTION:Each gasket 3a consists of an L-shaped part 5 having almost the same thermal expansion coefficient as a battery 1 and a sealing material 7 which is packed in the groove 6 of the part 5 facing the battery 1. Because of the above structure, gas seal between the battery 1 and manifolds 2 is achieved by the L-shaped parts 5 and the sealing material 7 packed in the parts 5. As a result, there is no possibility that the sealing materials 7 are directly influenced by thermal expansion strain produced between the battery 1 and the manifolds 2 due to temperature changes during fuel cell operation. Consequently, it is possible to maintain airtightness between the battery 1 and the manifolds 2 over a long period. |
