PURPOSE:To facilitate read of a larger original while using a small sized device by moving reversely an original platen and an optical section so as to expand the read scanning range while the moving quantity of the optical section is added to the moving quantity of the original platen. CONSTITUTION:Since an upper wire is clipped by a clamp 15 and a lower wire is clipped by a clamp 16, an original platen 1 is guided by guide shafts 4, 5 and moved to the right as shown in the arrow B and the optical section 6 is moved to the left as shown in the arrow C while being guided by guide shafts 8, 9. As a result, the original platen 1 and the optical section 6 are moved differentially while keeping the parallel state. Thus, a slit 7 provided to the optical section 6 contributes to the scanning of the entire face of the original platen 1, that is, the entire effective region by having only to move the original platen 1 by a distance of a half of the moving distance of the original platen 1.
