PURPOSE:To manufacture a shadow mask having superior adhesion to blackened film by subjecting an iron-base alloy sheet containing specific percentage of C, Si, Al, Mn, Ni, and Cr to piercing by etching, to annealing twice under specific conditions, and to press forming between the annealing stages. CONSTITUTION:The iron-base alloy sheet consisting of, by weight, <=0.10% C, <=0.30% Si, 0.30% Al, 0.1-1.0% Mn, 30-45% Ni, 2.0-10.0% Cr, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities is pierced by etching. The sheet is annealed at 750-1,100 deg.C for 3-60min in an atmosphere containing steam with 0-40 deg.C dew point or water, and is then press-formed. The formed material is further annealed at 450-700 deg.C for 3-60min in an atmosphere containing >=1vol% oxygen. In this way, the shadow mask with a blackened film for use in a picture tube for color television can be obtained.
