PURPOSE:To establish an optimum swirl formation and combustion condition over the whole operational range of an engine by detecting the combustion pressure in a cylinder and controlling the opening of a swirl control valve such that the combustion pressure reaches a given value. CONSTITUTION:A pressure sensor 22 is formed by molding as a washer for an ignition plug 23 of an engine 1. The output of the pressure sensor 22, a rotational phase/speed sensor 21, an engine temperature sensor 20, and a suction negative pressure sensor 8 are inputted to a control unit 25, which controls a fuel injection valve 4 and an electromagnetic valve 13 for a swirl control valve 10. When the pressure in a combustion chamber is changed, the control unit 25 controls the electromagnetic valve 13 such that combustion pressure reaches an optimum value stored in advance in compliance with a current operational condition. |
