The present invention relates to an installation for the stepwise transfer of workpieces between several successive work stations where these workpieces are checked or machined. This installation is characterised in that it comprises several similar manipulators A-D equal in number to the number of work stations, all the manipulators A-D are driven from the same general control shaft 8 so that their arms 2a-2d pivot synchronously and the resting table of the workpieces 1b, 1c, 1d of each manipulator B, C, D, with the exception of that of the first manipulator A of the set, is situated at the place of the end-of-transfer-travel position of the grasping gripper 4a, 4b, 4c of the preceding manipulator in the set of manipulators. <IMAGE>
