PURPOSE:To attain high-speed variable power processing by setting the number of input bits number to n natation of predetermined bit numbers in the variable power processing for a station such as a work station with picture editing functions. CONSTITUTION:A magnification is written on a magnification data latch circuit 4, a converting circuit 5 decides the principle of variable power according to the magnification data and outputs sequentially picture data after magnification at each b bits according to the principle of variable power from 80-bit (10-byte) picture data being consecutive data outputted from an 80-bit latch circuit 2. Thus, the data of the original picture is converted at each 10 bytes and after the processing for one line's content in a prescribed main scanning direction is finished, interleaving or duplication in the subscanning direction are discriminated and then the processing in the main scanning direction is conducted again. The variable power of all picture data is attained by repeating the processings above.
