PURPOSE:To prevent useless call to a computer in an abnormal state by allowing an exchange to send a message representing a faulty computer to a call data terminal equipment when a fault takes place in a computer connected to the exchange and an incoming call comes to it. CONSTITUTION:A data terminal equipment 2 and the computer 3 are connected to the exchange 1 via a terminal connector 4 and further a message equipment 5 generating information representing that the terminal equipment 2 or the computer 3 is faulty. If the computer 3 has a fault such as power failure or system-down, the exchange 1 detects the abnormal state and registers abnormality detection information to a line information memory. When the computer 3 is called by the data terminal equipment 2, the exchange 1 uses the incoming information and abnormality detection information to the computer 3 to inform that the computer 3 is faulty in the called terminal equipment from the equipment 5. Thus, the calling terminal equipment recognizes that the computer 3 is not busy but faulty and repeats no calling.
