PURPOSE:The sea component is removed from a fabric sheet which is composed of non-elastic polymer fibers and elastic polymer conjugated fibers which are of island-in-sea type and can generate ultrafine fibers, then the elastic polymer is melted to fuse the fiber-crossing parts whereby an artificial leather of high flexibility and high strength is obtained. CONSTITUTION:Ultrafine fibers of a non-elastic polymer such as polyethylene or polybutylene terephthalate and island-in-sea type conjugated fibers which are composed of an elastic polymer such as a polyurethane elastomer and can be converted into ultrafine fibers are used to make a web, then, the web is needle-punched to give a non-woven fabric. The sea component made of, e.g., polystyrene is removed off by dissolution to develop ultrafine fibers which contain the nonelastic fibers and elastic fibers at a weight ratio of 95/5-10/90 and the elastic polymer fibers which melt 10 deg.C lower than the nonelastic polymer does is melted or dissolved to bind crossing points of filaments or filament bundles to give the objective synthetic leather sheet of high flexibility, strength, wear resistance and shape retention. |
