Electrostatic processing of crude potassium salts

Kieserite contg. crushed crude salt is (i) mixed with 30-60 g/ton of aromatic carboxylic acid conditioner and (ii) heated and triboelectrically charged in air at 5-15% humidity. (iii) 20-60 g/ton of a second conditioner comprising a mixt. of fatty acids of chain length 6-14C atoms is added to the salt which is (iv) fed to an electrostatic free fall separator to obtain a concentrate prod. contg. kieserite and sylvite. - Pref. grain size of crude salt is 1-2 mms and conditioner in (i) is pref. salicyclic acid. Heating in (ii) is pref. to 30-80 deg.C. In (iii) the salt and conditioner are pref. mixed in a feed screw leading to the separator.
