PURPOSE:To obtain a wire electric discharge machining electrode wire being easily manufactured and obtaining a high electric discharge machining speed, by providing a coated layer of inorganic system zinc dust paint on a surface of Cu-Zn system alloy core material. CONSTITUTION:A preprocessed Cu-Zn system alloy core material 1, after it is immersed in inorganic system zinc dust paint 4 by a sinker roll 3, is pulled up through a drawing die 5, causing the core material 1 to form on its surface a coated layer 2 of the inorganic zinc dust paint. The Cu-Zn system alloy core material consists of a Cu-Zn alloy containing about 30-35% Zn or an alloy adding to said Cu-Zn alloy 1% or less an element of, for instance, Si, Ti, Al, etc. for the purpose of increasing high temperature strength so as to prevent a wire from easily breaking even if it is heated by an electric discharge. The inorganic system zinc dust paint is zinc dust paint comprising zinc powder of regulated grain size, inorganic binding agent and, for instance, thinner or the like. |
