PURPOSE:To eliminate a vertical smear component well in case it is large, by changing the number of horizontal scanning periods that the signals are stored in a vertical flyback period by an eliminating signal control means according to the size of the signals stored in the photosensitive elements. CONSTITUTION:An eliminating signal control means 50 is constituted by a saturation detection circuit 51, a gain variable amplification circuit 52 and a pulse control circuit 53. The circuit 51, in case a signal stored in a line memory 41 is saturated, reduces the frequency of the horizontal scanning periods to store the signals in a vertical flyback time by the pulse control circuit 53, and changes the gain of the circuit 52 according to the frequency. By this, it is avoided that the signals corresponding to a vertical smear component stored in the vertical flyback period is saturated.
