PURPOSE:To obtain metallic powder having a smooth and lustrous surface and superior fillability by atomizing a molten metal or alloy contg. a molten alkali metal in the air. CONSTITUTION:An alkali metal such as Li, Na or K is melted in a molten metal such as Zn, Cd or Pb or a molten alloy such as Zn-Sb or Zn-Al. At this time, Li or Na is preferably used as the alkali metal because a small amount of Li or Na added produces a spheroidizing effect. In case of Li and/or Na, the spheroidizing effect is recognized when Li and/or Na is added by >=0.001wt% of the amount of the molten metal. The molten metal or alloy contg. the molten alkali metal is atomized in the air by a conventional method. Atomized metallic powder having a desired shape such as a spherical shape can be manufactured very easily.
