PURPOSE:To attach and to detach a light source in both upper and lower direction by keeping the terminal of both end parts of the light source that consists of a tube body between the electrodes of a socket housing that has an opening in the upper space obtained by bending the sides to outside and also positioning the boss part to fix the electrodes to a carriage substrate. CONSTITUTION:On the upper part of the main body of a device 10, an original placing glass plate 12 is supported and fixed on the upper part of a frame 14 which is covered with a cover case 13. In the inside of the frame 14, a picture reading unit 18 which is installed on a carriage substrate 17 is arranged possible to move reciprocally. The unit 18 has a light source 20 that is made of the tube body in the direction that intersects orthogonally with a scanning direction to illuminate an original A and the terminals 20a and 20a that expose at the end part of the light source 20 are bent to an outside and are kept by socket members 19 and 19 that are fixed on the substrate 17. The members 19 have a socket housing 33 the upper of which is opened and boss parts 36 and 36 that fix plate spring shaped electrodes 35 and 35 and the boss parts 36 and 36 are inserted and positioned to installing holes 37 and 37 which are pieced on the substrate. Thus, the light source can be attached and detached to both upper and lower directions.
