PURPOSE:To carry out the extraction of an organic material in high rate of extraction, economically, without loss of the extractant and the stock solution, by contacting an aqueous medium containing organic material with an oily agent interposing a solid membrane therebetween using an extractant consisting of a mixture of a specific compound and a higher alcohol. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of tri-n-butyl phosphate and one or more 10-13C higher alcohols (at a volume ratio of preferably 0.3-0.7:0.7-0.3) is used as the extractant, and is made to contact with an aqueous medium containing organic material interposing a solid membrane therebetween to effect the extraction of the organic material. Any solid membrane having porous texture can be used for the purpose, and among them, Teflon(R) is most preferable because of its excellent chemical resistance and high extraction rate. In the case of using Teflon(R) as the solid membrane, the pressure of the water containing organic material is made higher than that of the extractant, and the pressure difference is preferably about 0.01-3kg/cm<2>.
