A device for manipulating articles comprises a gripper system (3) which is movable by means of a motor and has centring pins (5) which are arranged peripherally round a baseplate (4) and gripping elements (6) which are evenly distributed within the region bounded by the centring pins (5). The gripping elements (6) comprise in each case a mandrel (13) over which is pulled a clamping body (14) which is made of an expansible elastic material and is in its turn attached to the mandrel (13) by means of a protective sleeve (15). The protective sleeve is constructed so as to be completely enclosed except for apertures (23), the clamping body (14) being able to expand out of the said apertures (23) when acted upon by a pressure medium which is guided via longitudinal bores (16) and radial bores (18) in the mandrel (13), in order to fix articles to be manipulated between the individual gripping elements and/or between the gripping elements (6) and the centring pins (5) in a frictionally engaged manner, so that they can be inserted into packages, for example. Even articles such as containers with unstable locking parts which are arranged at the top in each case can be safely and reliably manipulated in this manner, as the positions of the centring pins can be precisely adjusted to the internal dimensions of the box or container into which the articles to be manipulated are to be inserted. <IMAGE>
