PURPOSE:To provide a coating agent which exhibits ceramic characteristics efficiently when a thin film is formed therefrom, by mixing ethyl silicate, tetra-n- butoxytitanium, etc., methyltrimethoxysilane, methanol, etc., and fine silicon carbide powder. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic coating agent is obtd. by mixing 10-50pts.wt. ethyl silicate, 2-15pts.wt. tetra-n-butoxytitanium or tetra-i-propoxytitanium, 2-30pts. wt. methyltrimethoxysilane, 20-70pts.wt. fine silicon carbide powder and isopropyl alcohol, methanol or ethanol. Not more than 0.1pt.wt. acetic acid as a catalyst for accelerating the hydrolysis of the coating agent may be added to expedite further the reaction.
