PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which has the viscosity variance of a magnetic coating material is reduced enough to give no problem to a practical application and also has excellent durability, by applying the 1/2-1/20 hardener quantity onto a supporter for magnetic coating material and at the same time adding a residual amount of the hardener to the magnetic coating material within 1hr before application of the hardener onto said supporter. CONSTITUTION:A hardener is added to a magnetic coating material contained in a container and sent to an applying device (batch system). In this process, the 1/2-1/20 hardener quantity (mol) is first added to the coating material within 10-20hr before the application is started with one bath of coating material. Then the residual amount of the hardener is added within an hour. In this case, both the same type and different types of hardeners are available, and it is desirable to stir the coating material mixed with the hardener. Otherwise the magnetic coating material is applied onto a supporter simultaneously with addition of the hardener (in-line system). In this case, the 1/2-1/20 quantity of the total hardener is added to the coating material within 10hr before the application of one batch of hardener is started. Then the residual amount of the hardener is added continuously within an hour.
