PURPOSE:To manufacture a cathode-ray tube with stable quality at a low cost by sintering a ceramic layer fixed around the outer surface of an area near the maximum diameter section of a cathode-ray tube glass case and clamping a metallic ring around the ceramic layer to reinforce the cathode-ray tube. CONSTITUTION:A solution prepared by adding isopropyl alcohol to a crystalline lead borate glass powder before the mixture is well agitated, is applied in belt- like form to the outer surface of an area near the maximum outer diameter 5 of a cathode-ray tube glass case 3. Next, the case 3 is sintered using a furnace for stabilizing a shadow mask installed in a face 1, thereby forming a ceramic layer 6. Then, a metallic ring 7 slightly smaller than the outer circumference of the maximum diameter section 5 is heated and expanded before being attached around the maximum outer diameter section 5. After that, the thus formed body is cooled and fixed, thereby achieving reinforcement. By the means mentioned above, the work efficiency of a reinforced-type cathode-ray tube can be increased without performing any tape winding or the like, thereby reinforcing the cathode-ray tube. |
