PURPOSE:To realize excellent recording and reproducing characteristics without using any auxiliary magnetic poles by providing a magnetic layer consisting of a resinous binder and magnetic powder on one or both surfaces of a nonmagnetic filmy carrier and furnishing 2 layers of a vertical magnetic layer and a high-permeability magnetic layer on the surface of the magnetic layer by using a physical means. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer 4d consisting of a resinous binder and magnetic powder corresponds to an auxiliary magnetic pole in the conventional technique. Accordingly, a medium need not be pressed by the auxiliary magnetic pole in this constitution. Consequently, a physical load on the medium is decreased, the durability is easily secured and a long service life >=10 times that of the conventional medium can be obtained. Besides, since the magnetic layer 4d consisting of the resinous binder capable of focusing the magnetic flux and the magnetic powder contacts directly with a high-permeability magnetic layer 4c, the availability of the magnetic flux is enhanced, hence the recording and reproducing characteristic is improved and the reproduction output can be increased by 15-20% as compared with conventional media.
