PURPOSE:To prevent the catalytic performance of a slurry formed by dispersing a catalyst, obtained by allowing a Mg compound-containing carrier to support a titanium halide, in a hydrocarbon medium from decreasing during storage, by storing the slurry in a specified temperature range. CONSTITUTION:A transition metal catalyst is prepared by allowing a carrier containing a magnesium compound (e.g., magnesium chloride or magnesium hydroxide) to support a titanium halide (e.g., titanium tetrachloride). A slurry is formed by dispersing the transition metal catalyst in a hydrocarbon medium (e.g., toluene or hexane) and is stored at a temperature of 10-120 deg.C. In this way, problems such as a decreased bulk density and lowered stereoregularity can be eliminated when an olefin (e.g., propylene or butene-1) is polymerized by using the stored catalyst.
