PURPOSE:A fungicidal agent for agricultural and horticultural purposes that contains a diterpene as an active ingredient, thus showing the action to inhibit germination of spores of rice blast-causing fungus and being suitable as an agent for combating rice blast. CONSTITUTION:The objective fungicidal agent contains, as an active ingredient, a diterpene of the formula (R1 is hydroxymethyl, aldehyde, acetoxymethyl, methoxymethyl; R2 is hydroxyl, acetoxy, further, when R1 is methoxymethyl, R2 is acetoxy, and, when R1 is acetoxymethyl, R2 is hydroxyl). The active ingredient is combined with other additive and used in the form of emulsion or wettable dust. The synthesis of the compound of the formula is conducted by, e.g., reducing methyl pisiferate where R1 is methoxycarbonyl and R2 is hydroxyl, with a reducing agent such as lithium aluminum hydride.
