PURPOSE:To prevent abnormal combustion from occurring by correcting the preset cylinder pressure based on the output of a temperature sensor in an engine controlling the cylinder pressure to the preset value or less when it exceeds the preset value based on the output of a pressure sensor. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 18 is provided with a basic circuit 21 calculating the standard Pmax preset pressure based on the rotating speed signal S1 from a distributor, a correction circuit 22 receiving a water temperature signal S2 from a water temperature sensor and an intake air temperature signal S3 from an intake air temperature sensor and multiplying the Pmax preset pressure by a correction factor to calculate the correction pressure, and an ignition timing correction circuit 24 correcting the ignition timing when the detection pressure is higher than the correction pressure. When the detection pressure exceeds the correction pressure, the ignition timing is delayed from a time T1 determined based on the operation condition to a timer T2 for correction, thereby the maximum cylinder pressure is made smaller than the Pmax preset value, and abnormal combustion is prevented from occurring.
