An ignition device is proposed for an internal-combustion engine, which has a DC/DC voltage converter (13), a plurality of ignition transformers (14), a plurality of electronic switches (16) and a plurality of spark plugs (15). In each case one of the primary windings (17) belonging to the ignition transformers (14) is connected to the voltage converter (13) by means of one of the electronic switches (16) at corresponding ignition times, and in each case one of the secondary windings (18) belonging to the ignition transformers (14) is used for supplying an ignition voltage to one of the spark plugs. In order to achieve a good effect, breakdown spark plugs are used as the spark plugs. <IMAGE>
