A shut-off device with a lifting rotary pivoted flap for ventilation systems with air guide ducts of rectangular cross-section is proposed, in which the lifting rotary pivoted flap is, in the closed position, pressed in a known manner on the front side against a sealing seat surrounding the duct cross-section, from which seat, on opening, it is first raised a little parallel to itself before it is rotated into the open position. The invention consists in that, in such a shut-off device, the duct cross-section surrounded by the sealing seat and the lifting rotary pivoted flap 3 are essentially rectangular and in that the axis of rotation 8 extends parallel to a diagonal of the lifting rotary pivoted flap 3. The shut-off device according to the invention is, in relation to the generic known shut-off devices, characterised in that, for the rotary pivoted flap, it makes do with a greatly smaller travel between the closed position and the position, in which the rotary pivoted flap can be rotated about the axis of rotation, without colliding with its edge against the sealing seat extending along the duct wall. <IMAGE>
