PURPOSE:To enhance storage stability and to enable handling in the light room by processing a specified heat transferable material in an image forming stage and an image transferring stage. CONSTITUTION:The heat transferable photosensitive material obtained by forming a colored layer soluble in water and photoinsolubilizable in water on an interlayer formed on a transparent support is processed in the stage A for contact exposing the photosensitive material to actinic rays through a negative original and washing off the exposed part to form an image, and in the stage B of bringing the formed image into pressure contact with the surface to be heat attached of the transfer material and heating them to transfer the colored image and the interlayer to the transfer material The image is formed by selecting a negative original in accordance with the tone of the photosensitive material in the stage A, and the colored image specified in tone is transferred in the stage B, and then, the colored images of the photosensitive materials different in tone are transferred together with the interlayer, and the transferred colored image is composed essentially of a colorant and a modified polyvinyl alcohol having as a hotosensitive additional group a stilbazolium or stilquinolinium group represented by formula I and II in which R1, R2 are each independent of each other and H or alkyl, Y<-> is a conjugated anion, m is an integer of 1-6, and n is 1 or 2.
