PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound in high yield and selectivity, keeping high catalytic activity for a long period, by the vapor-phase catalytic oxidation of (meth)acrolein with molecular oxygen using a catalyst obtained by adding a specific metal to P and Mo. CONSTITUTION:Acrylic acid or methacrylic acid is produced by the vapor-phase oxidation of acrolein or methacrolein with molecular oxygen at 240-450 deg.C, preferably 270-400 deg.C, in the presence of the compound of formula (X is one or more elements selected from K, Rb, Cs and Tl; Y is one or more elements selected from Fe, Ni, Sb, Si, Mn, U and Cu; a-g are atomic ratios of the components and a=0.5-6, b=12, c=0.2-6, d=0.01-6, e=0.01-6, f=0.01-6, and g is a value defined by the state of oxidation). The concentration of (meth)acrolein in the raw gas is 3-15vol%, and the molar ratio of oxygen to (meth)acrolein is preferably 0.4-2.5. |
