PURPOSE:To provide an optical recording medium having stability for reading light, higher absorbance and higher reflectance as well as sufficient S/N ratio, by a construction wherein a recording layer comprises a mixture of an indolenine cyanine dye with a combined substance of an indolenine cyanine dye cation and a quencher anion. CONSTITUTION:The recording layer comprises an indolenine cyanine dye. Among various indolenine cyanine dyes, one which gives high writing sensitivity and high S/N in reading when being incorporated in the recording layer is a cyanine dye of formula 1. In addition to the indolenine cyanine dye, the recording layer comprises a light-stabilized cyanine dye consisting of a combined substance of an indolenine cyanine dye cation and a quencher anion. Among such dye cations, one which gives with writing sensitivity and high S/N in reading when being incorporated in the recording layer is a cation of formula 2. |
