An apparatus serves for gluing together two different layers of material, of which one is designed to form a first cover for a binder, folder or the like, and the second is designed to form a second cover for the binder, folder or the like. Gluing together is performed in an area in which the layers overlap one another, by a gluing mechanism forming part of the apparatus, the mechanism coating one side of the one cover with a strip of glue along or close to the edge of the said layer. The apparatus also has an aligning mechanism 23-35, which aligns the two layers in relation to one another, so that they overlap one another in an area, which is at least as wide as the width of the strip of glue, a press mechanism 26-28, which presses the two layers against one another in the area for the strip of glue between them, and a feed mechanism 6-10, 15-18, 29-32 for feeding the layers through the apparatus. <IMAGE>
