PURPOSE:To realize cost-down by increasing mechanical strength of a separator and to make performance almost the same as that in the case of the separator whose main body is fine glass fiber by making organic synthetic fiber main and mixing acid-proof inorganic fine powder and binding agent in said fiber to produce the separator. CONSTITUTION:A lead storage battery has a separator which is made by making organic synthetic fiber main body and by mixing glass fiber, fine powder of acid-proof inorganic material such as silica fine powder and binding agent such as gelatin, starch etc. This separator for sealed type lead storage battery is made by a known method with mixture liquid made by mixing 60 parts of polyester fiber as organic synthetic fiber (weight ratio, hereafter the same), 20 parts of glass fiber of mean fiber diameter of 5-6mu and 18 parts of silica fine powder and 2 parts of gelatin in water. By this, mechanical strength of the separator when a battery is assembled is made sufficient and binding agent such as gelatin, starch is used, then slip-off and dispersion of fine powder of silica is not shown little, and as the fine powder of silica gives better hydrophilic performance, retaining ability of dilute sulfuric acid which is electrolyte can be kept high and can give excellent characteristics. |
