PURPOSE:To eliminate the loss of kinetic energy due to friction by operating displacement restricting means toward the target outward direction of a movable element as two side of an elastic unit for applying a drive force to the element. CONSTITUTION:An elastic unit is vibrated by an electrostrictive or magnetostrictive element to generate a traveling elastic wave. A movable element 11 receives drive forces of the same directions from the inner surfaces of sides 11a-11d by the generated wave to move at a high speed. In this case, the element 11 relatively moves with respect to the unit 1 while restricting in the displacement toward the direction except the direction to be moved by the two sides 2a, 2c by contacting the insides of the sides 11a, 11c under pressure with the two adjacent sides 2a, 2c of the unit 2. |
