Wood preservative compsns. contain ammonium salts (I) and imidazole or 1,2,4-triazole derivs. of formula (II) or their acid-addn. salts; Q = N or CH; R = CHR1-Ar or a gp. of formula (III); Z = CH2CH2, CH2CH2CH2, CHMeCHMe, CHMeCHEt or CH2CHR2; R2 = 1-10C alkyl; Ar1 = (a) phenyl opt. substd. by 1-3 of halogen, 1-6C alkyl, 1-6C alkoxy, CN, CF3 and NO2, or (b) thienyl, halothienyl, naphthyl or fluorenyl; R1 = 1-10C alkyl, 3-6C cycloalkyl, (3-6C)cycloalkyl(1-6C)alkyl, 2-6C alkenyl, Ar2(1-6C)alkyl, Ar2O(1-6C)alkyl or OR3; R3 = 1-10C alkyl, 2-6C alkenyl, 2-6C alkynyl or Ar2(1-6C)alkyl; Ar2 = (a) phenyl opt. substd. by 1-3 of halogen, CN, NO2, phenyl, 1-6C alkyl and 1-6C alkoxy, provided that not more than 1 substit. is CN, NO2 or phenyl, or (b) naphthyl; Ar is not defined.
